What the Proposed Base Rate Increase Means for You.

At Lakeland Electric, we understand that any change to your monthly electric bill matters. That's why we are committed to providing clear information about why base rate changes have been proposed and how these adjustments will help us continue delivering the safe, reliable service our customers expect and deserve. As your public power utility, Lakeland Electric is focused on providing dependable service while maintaining the infrastructure that powers our community. Based on the results of a thorough base rate study, we have proposed an adjustment to electric base rates.

Why are rates changing?

Lakeland Electric conducts periodic base rate studies to ensure electric rates remain financially responsible and aligned with the cost of providing reliable service. Rate studies evaluate factors such as the cost of service, revenue requirements, and future system needs to help ensure rates are sufficient to maintain safe, dependable service. It is a thorough and responsible effort to meet customer needs while keeping costs as low as possible.

What is the base rate?

Your electric charge is made of three parts. The base rate is the combination of the customer charge plus the energy charge for the amount of energy you use. The fuel charge, which is a straight pass-through to customers with no markup, is reviewed at least quarterly based on market conditions. The smallest part is taxes and fees to meet regulatory and environmental requirements.

What is the impact on my bill?

When will I see changes in my bill?

If approved, the base rate increases will occur annually for four years, beginning October 1, 2026.

What will these rates support?

The proposed rate adjustment will help Lakeland Electric continue to:
  • Maintain and repair infrastructure, such as poles and wires, to deliver dependable service to you.
  • Improve reliability and reduce the risk of outages.
  • Strengthen the grid to better withstand severe weather.
  • Train and support a workforce that keeps your energy flowing.
