With the holiday season upon us, now’s a good time to consider giving yourself the gift of energy savings. The beauty of this gift is it is good for the environment, lasts for years, never goes out of style, and saves you money in the long run. Here are 10 gift ideas for you:

  1. LED Lighting Decorations - Replace old and inefficient incandescent holiday lights with light-emitting diode (LED) lights. While they may cost a bit more than light strings of incandescent bulbs, LED lighting uses substantially less electricity but emits brighter light, and they are more durable and longer lasting. According to the Department Of Energy, 25 strings of LEDs can be connected end-to-end without overloading a wall socket.

  2. Timers - Plug your holiday lighting decorations into timers to automatically switch them on and off. There are a variety on the market - some more sophisticated than others - but an inexpensive, plug-in mechanical timer is easy to install and use. Consider putting one on your hot water heater to save even more. We offer a $50.00 dollar rebate for a hot water heater timer.
  3. HVAC Duct Seal - Lakeland Electric offers a $300 rebate to residential customers to seal their ductwork (in unconditioned space) with metal tape and mastic. Customers must have an inspection done by Lakeland Electric before the duct sealing takes place. At this point, the Energy Analysts will inspect the duct system for visible leaks and issue the rebate certificate. The customer can use any of the licensed HVAC contractors in our area. All ducts must be sealed with metal tape and mastic.

  4. Rechargeable Batteries - They’re more economical to use, create less waste and last much longer than single-use batteries.

  5. Upgrade Heat Pump/AC - If you’re heating and cooling your home with an old HVAC system then you’re throwing money out the window. Upgrade to a heat pump rated 16 SEER or higher and you may qualify for a rebate.

  6. Smart or Programmable Thermostat - It allows you to set comfortable temperatures while you’re home and minimize heating or cooling when you’re not. We offer a $100 dollar rebate for WiFi thermostats.

  7. HVAC Annual Maintenance  -  Annual inspections and maintenance of heating and cooling systems not only ensure proper and efficient operations, but also help prevent untimely breakdowns. This $100 dollar rebate  is available as an annual offer to residential customers that have completed a preseason heating and cooling system tune-up by a licensed HVAC contractor.

  10. Electric Vehicle Incentive - The Lakeland Electric Electric Vehicle Incentive Program provides residential customers with a one-time rebate of $1,000 for the purchase of an Electric Vehicle.
