January 14, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. First Implosion at C.D. McIntosh Power Plant, Unit 3

Lakeland Electric’s leading industrial demolition contractor, Total Wrecking & Environmental, will implode the first phase of the Lakeland power plant project by felling the 260-foot stack and 90-foot Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) unit on Saturday, January 14 at 8:00 a.m.

East Lake Parker Drive and a portion of Lake Parker will be closed from 6:30 a.m to 8:30 a.m or until the all clear during the morning of the implosion as part of the exclusion zone.

The demolition of the retired Lakeland Electric Units 1, 2 and 3 to make way for Lakeland Electric’s new natural gas-powered plant being built at C.D. McIntosh Power Plant. These changes are part of Lakeland Electric's NextGen plan, which has already cut its carbon emissions by 50% and prepares the utility for the growing needs of our community.

Lakeland Electric and Total Wrecking & Environmental are working together with the Wounded Warrior Project to provide a “front row” live streaming access for the implosion event. Anyone who donates on the campaign page will receive an exclusive live-streaming link for supporting this amazing cause.

A second implosion at the C.D. McIntosh Power Plant of the coal-fired boiler unit will occur in March 2023.
