Short Message Service (SMS)
THE CITY OF LAKELAND, ON BEHALF OF ITS MUNICIPAL UTILITY, LAKELAND ELECTRIC (HEREINAFTER “LAKELAND ELECTRIC”) PROVIDES A PROGRAM IN WHICH PARTICIPANTS HAVE THE ABILITY TO RECEIVE UPDATES VIA TEXT MESSAGE.
1. When you opt-in to the Short Message Service (SMS) (hereinafter “Text Program”) using a short code by texting REG, we will send you an SMS text message to confirm your sign-up. By sending a text message for participation in the text messaging program or by using our text program at any time, you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions set forth below. Lakeland Electric, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions from time to time.
2. You can cancel and opt-out of the SMS service at any time. Just text “STOP” to 21592 to stop. We will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just text “REG” to short code to register as you did the first time. We will start sending SMS messages to you again.
3. If, at any time, you forget what keywords are supported, just text “HELP” to 21592 for help. We will respond with several keywords supported by our service: REG, NICK, OUT, STAT, PAUSE, RESUME, STOP
4. We are able to deliver messages to the following major mobile phone carriers and most minor carriers:
- Major Carriers: AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile/MetroPCS, U.S. Cellular, Alltel, Boost Mobile, Google Voice, and Virgin Mobile.
- Minor Carriers: Alaska Communications Systems (ACS), Appalachian Wireless (EKN), Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular One of East Central IL (ECIT), Cellular One of Northeast Pennsylvania, Cincinnati Bell Wireless, Cricket, Coral Wireless (Mobi PCS), COX, Cross, Element Mobile (Flat Wireless), Epic Touch (Elkhart Telephone), GCI, Golden State, Hawkeye (Chat Mobility), Hawkeye (NW Missouri), Illinois Valley Cellular, Inland Cellular, iWireless (Iowa Wireless), Keystone Wireless (Immix Wireless/PC Man), Mosaic (Consolidated or CTC Telecom), Nex-Tech Wireless, NTelos, Panhandle Communications, Pioneer, Plateau (Texas RSA 3 Ltd), Revol, RINA, Simmetry (TMP Corporation), Thumb Cellular, Union Wireless, United Wireless, Viaero Wireless, and West Central (WCC or 5 Star Wireless), Cellcom, CSpire Wireless.

7. Alerts sent via SMS may not be delivered to you if your phone is not in range of a transmission site, or if sufficient network capacity is not available at a particular time. Even within a coverage area, factors beyond the control of Verizon and T-Mobile/MetroPCS may interfere with message delivery, including the customer's equipment, terrain, proximity to buildings, foliage, and weather. You acknowledge that urgent alerts may not be timely received and that Verizon and T-Mobile/MetroPCS do not guarantee that alerts will be delivered.

You agree not to send or otherwise make available content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, or contains hate speech.

Lakeland Electric is not responsible for incomplete, lost, late or misdirected messages, including, but not limited to, undelivered messages resulting from any form of filtering by your mobile carrier, service provider or email server.

By sending text messages, you grant Lakeland Electric the perpetual, irrevocable, and fully sublicensable license to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, publicly perform, and publicly display any and all text message content provided by you to Lakeland Electric (in whole or in part) and to incorporate such content into other works in any format now known or later developed.

Lakeland Electric reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend any or all of its Text Program, in whole or in part, for any reason, with or without notice to you.

The terms and conditions set forth herein regarding the use of Lakeland Electric’s Text Program are governed by the laws of the State of Florida.
